Restoring Balance Yoga Glasgow

Yoga teacher Deborah Kennedy – who trained at Balance Yoga, Glasgow’s foremost Teacher Training School – guides students to develop their practice, to celebrate their bodies, improve their wellbeing, advance their postures, and explore yoga in its widest sense to balance the body and mind through movement and stillness.

At Restoring Balance Yoga Glasgow, our principle style of yoga is Hatha. Hatha, as a general rule or classification, contains all of the main postures (asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayamas) used in most other derivative forms of physical yoga such as Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Kundalini etc.

If you are new to yoga, Hatha is ideal, as it introduces the fundamentals of the postures and breathing techniques to provide a basis for which continued development is based. It’s also perfect for those familiar with yoga to deepen their physical, mental and spiritual practice.

About Our Yoga In Glasgow

Yoga is a Sanskrit word that means to yoke or bind and in relation to the physical postures we practice in yoga class, we aim to bring together the body and mind, through the use of the conscious breath.

Yoga originated in India and its’ philosophy encompasses moral codes by which to lead a virtuous life and practices that offer to lead the disciplined to a heightened state of true self awareness.

However, the yoga that we in the west recognize and more readily grasp, is the physical practice of yoga asanas (postures). These postures will be sequenced to develop physical strength, flexibility, balance, muscular and aerobic endurance, and importantly, body awareness.

What differentiates yoga from being simply an exercise class is the therapeutic value it offers when taught and practiced with respect to body alignment, making it beneficial and accessible to all participants, irrespective of physical ability and increasingly important in today’s age of desk-bound workplaces and sedentary lifestyles.

Furthermore, the weaving together of breath to movement gives yoga a meditative quality which serves to harmonise the body and mind, leaving participants feeling open, strong, balanced and calm.

Our ethos is simply to “restore balance to the body, mind and emotion” through regular practice.

Beginner’s Yoga Course

At our 6-week Beginner’s Yoga Course in Glasgow, students will be guided through a progressive programme of postures.

Students will be introduced to the foundational poses (asanas) from the families of postures which are commonly seen in Hatha yoga classes and which form the basis of the myriad varieties of yoga classes on offer today.

We will explore using conscious breathing, sun salutations, standing, seated and balancing poses, inversions, relaxation and how to transition between them.

Our focus will be on setting up safe alignment appropriate for your body to allow you to explore the posture and ultimately experience release, strength and joy in your body.

At completion of the course you will feel increased knowledge, body awareness, confidence and enthusiasm to move into a general or level 1 course or to return to a a vinyasa/flow style class with much improved technique and stability.

General Yoga Class

The general class is based on a 10-week progressive programme which will guide students towards a pre-determined goal such as working towards peak poses, developing certain aspects of fitness or will have a seasonal influence.

On completion of the 10 week course (which will be a rolling programme) students will have gained improved fitness, mastery of practiced postures, opportunities to explore relaxation techniques, body awareness and confidence and the choice to explore wider aspects of yoga philosophy.

At Restoring Balance Yoga Glasgow, we aim to listen to people and through the application of therapeutic massage and yoga, help our clients move closer to physical, mental and emotional harmony.
